All religions rest on the same bedrock: human kindness, compassion, and love. Among the strongest teachings of Mother Teresa was “If you want to love God, love your neighbor first and foremost.” This thinking was the inspiration for the Missionaries of Charity Mother Teresa-a worldwide humanitarian organization committed to assisting the destitute and the least.
The Missionaries of Charity, founded in India in 1950, was formed to tend to those who were unwanted, uncared for and unloved. Mother Teresa felt that the greatest need of the world was not hunger, but loneliness and the sense of being unwanted. By the time of her death, the organization was running more than 610 missions in 123 countries, such as orphanages, homes for the dying, leprosy centers, soup kitchens, schools and counseling programs.
Unlike your typical attractions in Agra India, visiting Mother Teresa’s Charity Home at Agra provides quite a profound experience. It is a calm, serene place that provides children and adults who suffered unimaginable trauma with dignity, care and hope. Those who arrive at the Charity Home are met with an air of quiet compassionate humility and service—principles that still anchor the Missionaries of Charity… the Mother Teresa nuns.
The charity home shelters children whose parents disowned them, those who are orphaned, or those whose family cannot afford to support them. These kids are parented, provided them emotional security and motivation to move beyond trauma and separation.
The foundation makes certain that every child is provided with the essentials-for-housing, clothing, wholesome food, medical attention, and a sound education. The children are assisted to complete their schooling and wherever possible to takeup further studies in colleges/ technical centres etc for a brighter future.
The home includes moral and spiritual education in its daily schedule. The foundation performs daily prayers and spiritual rituals to cultivate discipline, loving kindness, and spiritual strength. A spiritual protector offers advice and support for the growth of personality and the emotional well-being.
Children are taught to live together as brothers and sisters, united in work, in joy and in suffering. This powerful family atmosphere makes sure that no child is ever isolated or unloved.
Mother Teresa’s Charity Home in Agra serves as a hospice for the chronically ill and those dying. Managed by the Missionaries of Charity Mother Teresa nuns The home is:
Keenly interested in home and child life, she has visited and worked among some 48 children in orphanages or in impoverished homes and villages
Close to 150 elderly adults who are sick and helpless in the hands of their death in the dark dungeons of Indian homes for the aged
The mission is dependent on private donations and volunteer support. Everything done here begins and ends with dignity and compassion and love, unconditional love.
