Located in the historic Nizamuddin Basti, in Delhi, the Dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya serves as a spiritual beacon and a source of unity for Indians and people of other nationalities; it is among the most visited Sufi shrines in the world. This is after the shrine of Hazrat Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer and lies on the old trade route between Kashmir and Ladakh on the way to the Indus. Nizamuddin Auliya was one of the great saints of the Chishti Sufi Order and his teachings emphasized love, tolerance and devotion to God. A famous spiritual leader of the 13th century, he was born in 1238and was the spiritual successor of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti and carried titles of great prestige like Mehboob-e-Ilahi and Sultan-ul-Mashaikh. The saint died on the 3rd of April in 1325, and even after all these years his tomb continues to call out to the devotees.

The dargah also houses the graves of the great Sufi poet and musician Amir Khusro and Princess Jahanara Begum, the daughter of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, blending spirituality, poetry and Mughal history.
